Like the rest of the world, I woke up to the reality of Russian President Vladimir Putin launching a war on Ukraine. It is only natural, in moments like these, to turn your thoughts inward and ask, why?
Why are we so quick to destroy?
Why are we so flippant with the lives of others?
Why are we so power-hungry?
Why are we so quick to choose the chaos of conquest?
Of course, these questions have been asked for Millennia.
It’s easy in a moment like this to think in a rather ecclesiastical way about the "meaninglessness" of it all. However, equally as ecclesiastical, is its counterpoint. If all of this is truly meaningless, if we will all swiftly pass from this life to next, then let us, “eat, drink and be merry”.
At the risk of seeming insensitive to the plight of friends in Ukraine, today I am choosing to do exactly that. I choose to focus on things that I have direct control over—not conflict between nation states, not threats of nuclear war, not the ambitions of dictators.
Those, while desperate realities, are completely outside of my purview. I do however have the ability to create. I do have the ability to act. I do have the ability to dream. I do have the ability to choose. I do have the ability to consume life giving, inspiring information that challenges me and prods me—compels me and builds my mind, body and soul.
So this, this is where I will live today.
I will continue to create. I will continue to dream. I will continue to encourage. I will continue to promote technologies (e.g., Blockchain, Decentralization, Mechanism Design) that strip evil from power and create equitable—mutually beneficial—realities.
Radiusphere will continue.
And in some strange way, maybe with even more purpose and more power and more intention than before.
For my Ukrainian friends and my Afghani friends and friends in other desperate and downtrodden parts of the world where your dream is not in creating art—your dream is experiencing true freedom. My heart, my hope, my vision is both for, and with, you.
Do not give up.
Do not give in.
Never. Never. Never quit.
Keep pursuing. Keep becoming. Keep creating. Keep dreaming.
